چکیده

The map ‘Geology of the Monte Banchetta – Punta Rognosa area (Troncea valley, Western Alps)’ details lithostratigraphy and structural setting a key sector in Alpine chain, characterized by close associations continental oceanic basements, meta-sediments. mapped unit (BRU), tectonically juxtaposed to different metaophiolitic units, comprises succession, made serpentinized mantle overlain Middle-Upper? Jurassic polymictic meta-breccia, with clasts, metasandstone, consisting crust Lower–Upper? carbonate-bearing quartzite, micaschist meta-breccia. These two successions share uppermost stratigraphic levels post-rift Upper Jurassic-Cretaceous carbonate-micaschists. deciphered architecture indicates that lower succession BRU represents portions exhumed reworked emplaced before deposition sediments.

Geomorphology of the Hérens valley (Swiss Alps)

This paper presents a geomorphological map of the Hérens valley in the Western Swiss Alps. With an area of 270 km and altitudes ranging from 470 to 4357 m a.s.l., this valley is one of the main secondary catchments of the Upper Rhône valley. The high differences in altitudes, combined with a varied geology, create an important geomorphic diversity. The main processes active in mountain areas, t...

Present-day uplift of the western Alps

Collisional mountain belts grow as a consequence of continental plate convergence and eventually disappear under the combined effects of gravitational collapse and erosion. Using a decade of GPS data, we show that the western Alps are currently characterized by zero horizontal velocity boundary conditions, offering the opportunity to investigate orogen evolution at the time of cessation of plat...
